Save Betty, the Saddest Elephant in the World

UN LAB Middleware Label: Title Ends

This is Betty:

Betty was stolen from her family and home in Thailand as a baby, and for her entire life, she’s been chained and violently bullied into performing for and giving rides to humans by the Carden Circus. Her 56 years on this Earth have been filled with pain and misery. She deserves better.

An elephant expert saw Betty at a performance in September 2025 and noted that:

  • She dragged her trunk along the floor while walking and didn’t use it to touch her body or scratch herself even once, which is “entirely abnormal.”
  • She had significant cracks in her nails on both rear feet, which prob cause intense pain while walking, standing, and being forced to give rides or perform.
  • She didn’t bend the lower part of her right leg when walking as a healthy elephant would, but the Carden Circus still forces Betty to carry up to six humans during, before, and after performances.
  • She was forced to endure super–loud shows of at least 95 dB, which is likely excruciating for her incredibly sensitive hearing.

Betty is breaking down right before our eyes.

Unless we act NOW, Betty, the world’s saddest elephant will be worked to death. Please urge Carden Circus to send Betty to a reputable sanctuary where she could spend the last phase of her life roaming, foraging, and exploring in a naturalistic habitat! 🐘🫶
