Birds Still Dying at U.S. Bank Stadium!

UN LAB Middleware Label: Title Ends

The U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis is covered with reflective glass that birds can't distinguish from the sky, resulting in fatal collisions. Prior to the stadium's completion in 2016, multiple organizations—including PETA—contacted stadium officials urging them to alter the building's design to prevent bird collisions. Our pleas were to no avail: The stadium was completed, and reports of bird fatalities began to pour in. Rather than taking immediate mitigating action to save birds, officials decided to undertake a lengthy study to determine how many birds were being killed. In the years that have passed since the building's completion, hundreds of birds have reportedly perished after crashing into the stadium, while PETA and others have repeatedly pleaded with officials to take action. If stadium officials were hoping to be exonerated by the study, they're surely disappointed by the results, which were finally released in November 2019 and indicate that at least 111 birds died after colliding with the stadium in one year alone. To add insult to injury, officials now say that they need several months to consider the study results before taking action to prevent further deaths. Birds need your voice now!

Please take a moment to send a polite e-mail to the U.S. Bank Stadium's general manager and the Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority telling them that enough is enough—they have delayed for far too long! There are many ways to retrofit the stadium in order to prevent these tragedies while maintaining its aesthetic appeal, including patterning the glass (using etching or fritting) and using window films, decals and tape, screens, grilles, shutters, exterior shades, awnings, and overhangs. Urge them to take immediate action to prevent further bird casualties.
