That mink coat at the store is made of 50 to 60 slaughtered minks and carries the risk of sparking the next global pandemic. 😰 We need a nationwide ban on mink farming NOW—help get this bill passed to save minks from fur factory farm hell!

The Mink: Vectors for Infection Risk in the United States Act (Mink VIRUS Act, HR 2185) aims to phase out mink farms nationwide within a year and compensate the facilities’ owners. It’s a dub for everyone—especially the millions of minks who would otherwise suffer and die on these farms.

Minks are smart, sensitive animals with A+ vision, smell, and hearing. They’re skilled climbers and swimmers who can dive to depths of 16 feet to search underwater nooks and crannies for food. But on fur factory farms, minks are jammed in tiny, filthy cages with no access to the bodies of water they naturally need.

If you think this unnatural existence would mess with the minks’ health, you’re spot on. They frequently show signs of extreme psychological distress—frantic circling and self-mutilation, and suffer from infections, gaping wounds, and other illnesses and injuries that commonly go untreated. After a miserable life, these animals are killed by gassing or neck-breaking. 😠

These farms are also risky af for public health. They were hotbeds for COVID-19 outbreaks and could lead to the next global pandemic. 😳

Please urge Congress to shut down the country’s dangerous, inhumane mink fur factory farms!

I’m writing as a constituent to urge you to support the ban on mink farming in the United States. The Mink: Vectors for Infection Risk in the United States Act, or the Mink VIRUS Act (HR 2185), would phase out the country’s mink farms within one year and establish a grant program to reimburse farmers for the full value of their operations, enabling them to successfully transition away from an increasingly unprofitable business.

In addition to the inherent cruelty in killing minks for their fur, these factory farms pose serious public health risks. Mink farms have been linked to dangerous disease outbreaks, including COVID-19, and experts are sounding the alarm that these facilities remain a serious biological threat for the creation of the next global pandemic.

Other countries, including Italy and France, have already responded to this threat by banning mink fur farming, and it is time for the United States to do the same.
