Athletes everywhere are going vegan to up their game and be kinder to animals, the planet, and their bodies—so why aren’t sports gear companies keeping up? Urge the Wilson sporting goods company to change its game, too! 🎾

Wilson sells baseball and softball gloves made from animal skin, which often comes from cows and bulls who were burned with hot irons and had parts of their tails or testicles cut off. In the animal skin industry, some are skinned alive. 😨 The company also sells tennis balls made from wool. In the wool trade, sheep are beaten, stomped on, and have their throats slit—even on “responsible” farms

Cows and sheep don’t want to suffer and die to become sports gear any more than our dogs and cats would. Plus, exploiting animals like this is responsible for nearly 1/5th of all human-made greenhouse gas emissions. 🤯 Animals and the planet need a change ASAP.

I care about animals and the planet. That’s why I’m asking Wilson to make the kind and eco-conscious switch to leather-free baseball and softball gloves and wool-free tennis balls.

The leather and wool industries hurt animals and the environment. Cows’ skin is torn off their bodies—sometimes while they’re still conscious—and sheep are cut open and beaten in the wool trade. The production of animal-derived materials also contributes to climate change, land devastation, pollution, and water contamination. Wilson’s parent company says that it “constantly reviews its global production and sourcing footprint to identify possibilities for improvements and reduce its environmental impact.” If that’s true, then to meet sustainability goals, Wilson must evolve beyond using animals’ bodies.

As the number one sports equipment brand, Wilson has a responsibility to keep up with changing times and technology and to give athletes top-quality equipment produced in a way that doesn’t support animal suffering or harm the environment. Will you please switch to vegan materials—starting with making only leather-free gloves and wool-free tennis balls?
