What if hitting and whipping horses were Olympic events? You don’t have to stretch your imagination too much—Olympic equestrian events might as well be called horse abuse contests. 😡

Forcing horses to zigzag between and jump over obstacles for screaming crowds is bad enough, but pics and vids have also shown:
- A British Olympic equestrian team member whipping a horse’s legs over and over during a training session.
- A German pentathlon competitor whipping a horse named Saint Boy during the competition after he refused to enter the course. Her coach was then shown hitting the clearly startled horse.
- A show jumper hitting a horse named Good Luck over and over at an event in California.
- A horse named Jet Set seeming to get hurt in the middle of a cross-country course during the 2020 Olympic Games. Veterinarians said he had an irreparable ligament rupture in one of his legs, and he was euthanized.
- An Irish rider forcing a horse named Kilkenny to finish a show jumping event while blood poured from the horse’s nose.
- A Brazilian Olympic equestrian team member forcing a horse’s neck into an extremely painful, hyperflexed position. This banned training method can make it hard for horses to breathe and damage their spine.

YOU have the power to make a change. Thanks to constant pressure from animal advocates, the 2028 Olympics will be the first to hold the Modern Pentathlon without horse events, replacing them with an American Ninja Warrior-style obstacle course. 🎉 Getting all horse events out of the Olympics is 100% possible—but we have to speak up now.
