Rats frozen to death. Hamsters bashed against a table. Every time someone buys an animal from PetSmart or Petco, they’re throwing their $$$ at this kind of cruelty. 💸

PetSmart

PetSmart has gotten some of the animals it sold from hellish breeding facilities where:

Rats were put in plastic bags and frozen alive.
Hamsters were attacked by free-roaming cats and left to flail and die on a blood-spattered floor.
Bearded dragons were denied water and gassed to death.

Petco

Petco treats the animals it sells like objects. The company's stores have:

Left betta fish to die in filthy cups, each with only a few inches of water.
Forced birds to suffer in small cages, where they've shown signs of extreme mental distress, like pulling out their own feathers, pacing, and collapsing.
Denied reptiles food, space, and medical care, and sold them to customers with no clue how to care for them.

This abuse doesn’t just harm animals in shady facilities—it also harms animals in shelters. Over 6 million animals end up in U.S. shelters every year, and they miss out on getting a loving home every time someone buys an animal from PetSmart or Petco, while another animal is bred to replace them. 😢

Unless we speak up, this cycle of misery is gonna keep rolling—please urge PetSmart and Petco to stop selling animals!

I’m writing to urge you to stop selling animals at your stores. Animals are living beings, not merchandise, and selling them causes extreme suffering.

Buying animals from breeding mills props up the rampant abuse that has been exposed at these facilities. Rats have drowned in flooded enclosures, hamsters have been bashed against a table, gerbils have been gassed to death, and sick snakes have been left to starve. This kind of cruelty gets more funding every time you sell an animal who came from one of these facilities.

There is also a severe animal overpopulation crisis. More than 6 million animals enter U.S. shelters every year, and they miss out on getting a loving home every time someone buys an animal, while another animal is bred to replace them.

Please do the right thing and stop selling animals. Until you do, I will not buy anything at your store and will let my friends know to do the same.
