You and other animal advocates recently joined the compassionate veterinarian group Our Honor in successfully convincing Washington State University to cancel its planned horse-killing laboratory, saving eight healthy and adoptable horses from certain death. But the fate of the horses is still in limbo.

Please urge the USDA, which reportedly has custody of the horses, to release the horses to a sanctuary ASAP, instead of sending them to another laboratory for experimentation and death.

After taking action, please send polite comments to Washington State University (WSU) officials, urging them to end a similar laboratory in which goats are harmed in veterinary training surgeries and killed.

I am writing today to strongly urge you to facilitate the release of eight horses recently saved from certain death at a Washington State University veterinary training laboratory to reputable sanctuaries that are ready to accept them.

Eight healthy horses were reportedly in the process of being transferred from a U.S. Department of Agriculture experimentation program to Washington State University as part of that school’s College of Veterinary Medicine Junior Surgery laboratory. The horses were slated for use by veterinary students to practice complicated abdominal surgeries before being killed.

However, the university canceled these plans following massive public backlash, including pleas from students, alumni, the veterinary group Our Honor, and more than 36,000 messages from PETA supporters.

The horses are highly adoptable, healthy, and were never destined for slaughter. Sanctuary placement for them has been secured at Triple J Horse Haven in Apple Valley, California, at no cost to the government.

There is no ethical or scientific justification for sending these horses to slaughter or transferring them to another laboratory. Please release them to a peaceful retirement.
