Some tourists think that dolphins used for swim encounters (like this dolphin 👇) are “smiling” and “happy”.

But would you be happy if you were torn away from your home and family or bred in a tiny prison? Would you be smiling if you couldn’t escape attacks from other frustrated prisoners and were forced to perform tricks for people’s entertainment? Ofc not—so just think about how dolphins, who are naturally talkative and need open waters, feel in cramped lagoons at resorts. 😢

I was disappointed to learn that your resort has partnered with a company that offers cruel “swim with dolphins” encounters, even though the world is moving away from exploiting intelligent, sensitive cetaceans for human entertainment and many top travel companies—including Airbnb, Booking.com, Expedia, and Tripadvisor—refuse to sell tickets to such experiences.

The animals who suffer for these experiences are confined to small lagoons in which they’re unable to dive deep, escape attacks from other frustrated animals, or have any semblance of a natural life. In the ocean, they would swim for miles every day—but in confinement, they float listlessly at the top of shallow pools.

As long as you continue to allow dolphins to suffer for entertainment at your resort, your reputation will suffer. I urge you to do the right thing by ending your endorsement of this cruelty. Please cut ties with all “swim with dolphins” encounters and commit to not allowing the breeding or acquisition of more animals on your premises.
