The gorg Niagara Falls area is home to so many animals—and unless we stand up for them, they’re in for months of panic, stress, and toxic air!

Niagara Falls Tourism’s fireworks series kicks off on May 15 and is scheduled every single night through October 12, meaning 151 back-to-back nights of loud blasts. The explosions can be super harmful to the mental health of wildlife, companion animals, and humans with post-traumatic stress disorder. They also pump out clouds of smoke that can hurt anyone who breathes (that’s all of us). 😷

A natural wonder like Niagara Falls doesn’t need fireworks to draw in tourists. But if they want a show, a cutting-edge laser or drone display is the way to go. ✔️ This top-tier entertainment is much quieter, cleaner, and less stressful for everyone.

Please urge Canada’s Niagara Falls Tourism to swap out fireworks for a laser or drone show—or just let the Falls be the Falls!

I was shocked to learn of Niagara Falls Tourism’s plan to launch fireworks through October 12, for a total of 151 consecutive nights. Not only is this terrible for the environment, it also fails to take into consideration noise-sensitive residents—including people with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), companion animals, and wildlife—who are being repeatedly traumatized by the nightly blasts. Please cancel fireworks displays permanently and use alternatives such as lasers instead, which are quiet and produce virtually no air pollution.

It’s well documented that explosions from fireworks terrify wildlife and trigger stress, disorientation, and anxiety in them. Dogs and cats often panic and try to flee, or they become lost or are hit by cars during fireworks displays. Some animals even die outright from fright or strangle themselves on their chains while trying desperately to escape the frightening noise. Veterans and others suffering from PTSD can be deeply disturbed by the noise of the explosives and the smell of gunpowder.

No one deserves to be traumatized by fireworks for even one night, much less 151 nights, when the waterfalls’ natural tranquility, majestic size, and geologic history provide plenty to inspire awe and draw tourists to the area. By switching to laser light shows, Niagara Falls can still offer an additional attraction that’s safe and respectful of all residents.
